The Good Acre

Help us kick off this year's Global Volunteer Week by joining us at The Good Acre (TGA)! Volunteers will be working in  TGA’s community garden space, adding new soil to plots, mulching and bagging paths, and potentially doing other garden prep activities such as weeding and composting. These activities are physical, involving a lot of shoveling, lifting, and bending. This garden space is used by TGA staff for events, tours, and meetings, and also by our neighbors to grow food and flowers for themselves! 

Second Harvest Heartland

Volunteers assist with sorting, labeling, weighing and packing various food items to meet immediate needs and help feed our hungry neighbors. The projects vary from day to day and volunteers regularly work with fresh produce, dry goods, bread, and other food donations. This volunteer position requires volunteers to be able to twist and bend down, stand for the duration of their shift, and lift up to 5 pounds. Some positions require the ability to lift 40 pounds. 

JFB Coffee Connect

For this year's JFB Coffee Connect, General Mills staff are invited to come together at the James Ford Bell Research Center to help with an onsite project in support of CLUES. Volunteers will be assisting in creating spice kit for their clients.

The Food Group

Join us in supporting one of our major hunger relief partners for Global Volunteer Week. We will be helping meet one of the Food Group's biggest needs by repacking bulk food items. Volunteers would help break down large bulk orders of rice, repackage them into household sized bags, and help The Food Group reach their goal of 2,000 lbs!

Junior Achievement BizTown

At Junior Achievement BizTown, middle schoolers become adults for the day as they explore careers, run businesses, and make personal financial decisions. Tree Planting

Please join us on Earth Day 2025 to plant trees just north of Betty Crocker Driver. We are partnering with the City of Golden Valley to plant new trees between Betty Crocker Drive and Bassett Creek. Dress to do some dirty work (digging, trimming root ball, shoveling, placing mulch, and watering). We'll work in the rain too and schedule a different day if there's lightning. Meet at the north doors of the Champion Center Employee Entrance.​

JFB Clean Up

Please join us for an event cleaning up our campus, the fence lines that our neighbor's see, and the Nature Area north of JFB. We will provide gloves and vests, some grabbers too, and go out across the site to gather trash. Meet at the North Entrance of JFB.​

Minneapolis Sculpture Garden

In partnership with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, the General Mills team has been invited to help with their annual spring cleanup at the iconic Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Volunteers will help spruce up their spring garden and assist in the cutting of ornamental grasses.

Speed Spice Packing Event at MGO

Join us as we gather to speed-pack spice kits for CLUES and their clients. CLUES is Minnesota’s largest Latino-led nonprofit organization. MGO Clean Up

Having access to spices allows people to make more nutritious and culturally relevant foods, but spices can be expensive and are often not available at food shelves. That is why we will be hosting spice drives! We will be collecting the following items (unopened and unexpired) at MGO and JFB during Global Volunteer Week, April 14-25:

Grocery donation drive - Old age home

The CSR Team is organising a Grocery Donation Drive for the members of an Old Age Home - Assisi Bhavan in Mumbai. This drive will help to provide essential items to senior citizens in need. Your generation’s donations will help to support Assisi Bhavan in caring for the aged members of our society. Donation boxes will be kept from 14th April to 23rd April, 2025, at the Ventura and Spectra Cafeterias for employees to drop in.

Employees can donate one or more of the following items:

Sales in collaboration with the GIC CSR team, is organizing Pebble Painting Initiative on 23rd April 2025. Join us for a meaningful volunteer session with UDAAN students, centered on mindfulness and creative expression.
Through the simple yet powerful activity of pebble painting, participants will explore the art of being present, expressing emotions, and building connections in small, supportive groups.

This session is designed to:
- Encourage self-expression through art
- Promote relaxation and stress relief
- Build confidence and communication skills
- Strengthen team bonding and mutual understanding

Hygiene Kits Donation

As discussed, FSS COB in collaboration with GIC CSR will be conducting a Hygiene Kit Donation Drive during Global Volunteer Week for underprivileged teenage girls across Mumbai. Donation boxes will be kept from 14th April to 25th April, 2025, for employees to drop in.

Recycling paper

CMI and GWS, in collaboration with the GIC CSR team, are organizing the Join the Recycling Paper Initiative on 23rd April 2025.

Join us for a meaningful 1.5-hour volunteer session where we transform old newspapers into eco-friendly paper bags!  These handmade bags will be handed over to a local NGO for sales, supporting their cause while promoting sustainability.

This initiative aligns with the principles of reuse, reduce, and recycle, fostering an environmentally responsible community. Together, we can create a cleaner, greener future!

Growing Micro Greens

GSS is organizing Participate in the Growing Microgreens activity, where volunteers and students will come together to plant a variety of vegetable microgreens. As they embark on their super nutrition journey, participants will not only learn about the health benefits of microgreens but also engage in a creative session by painting their planting pots, adding a personal touch to their green efforts. This initiative promotes health, sustainability, and culinary enjoyment, encouraging young minds to connect with nature and understand the importance of growing their own nutritious food. Through hands-on experience, we aim to inspire a sense of responsibility toward the environment and foster a love for sustainable living.

Sports Drive

We will be running a sports drive collecting both new and used sporting goods (i.e., baseballs, tennis balls etc) for a program known as Beyond 330 that targets middle school aged children focused on healthy living and learning. This will be taking place for the entire month of April.

Join us for a day of tree planting on April 30th with Brian W Fleming School. We partner with this school for our Breakfast for Kids Program. We have 10 spots available.

Pet Kit Building

We will be building pet kits (food, toys, treats) in support of Brampton Animal Services Food Pantry. We will even have some furry friends join us! Signups will be in office and this event will have 40 spots available.

Iver Environment Center Support (Uxbridge, UK)

Volunteers will continue to support the Iver Environment Center through several activities like with painting, weeding, cutting back overgrowth, moving woodchip and working in the General Mills allotment, erecting a new polytunnel for vegetable growing, building a new storage bay in the front of the centre, creating a rustic barrier to separate the car park and seating area, and making a minibeast wall.

Belgium - Help at a Shelter

Join us at the shelter and lend a paw with a variety of tasks, from walking dogs to cleaning and organizing! As this is an ongoing volunteer opportunity, the activities may vary, so come ready to jump in wherever help is needed. This role may involve bending, lifting, and getting your hands dirty, but most importantly, you'll be making a difference for the dogs and cats there! To keep things manageable, we can host up to four volunteers per day—we recommend coordinating with your team in advance!

BELGIUM - Beach clean-up

Help with the daily care of senior horses while supporting a meaningful program for children! Volunteers will assist with mucking out stables, preparing feed, and feeding the horses—there’s plenty to do, and your help makes a difference! 😊They’re in the process of relocating, so the volunteer work may take place at their new location—or you may even lend a hand with the move! We need to coordinate with them on available dates, so please share your availability and try to team up with colleagues.
